Paraprofessionals Institute on Inclusive Practices and Communication

Start date: 08/26/2019

End date: 08/28/2019

Time: 09:00am-2:30pm

Location: Teachers College, Columbia University, 525 W. 120th St., New York, NY 10027

This three-day institute aimed at paraprofessionals (though teachers are certainly welcome to attend) will ensure a smooth transition into the new school year for staff and students alike. Focusing on adult communication and collaboration, with a special lens on families and the school community, attendees will learn to understand student behavior as communication and, sometimes, as a brain-based difference (trauma, executive functioning challenges, etc.). This institute will also focus on how best to support academics in the classroom for complex learners.

Participants will leave with a toolbox that includes:

  • Break systems
  • Reflection tools
  • Practical interventions
  • Data collection techniques and materials
  • Strategies for self-care and stress management
  • Action steps for sharing your learning back at school

Inclusive Classrooms Coaching Institute: Level 2 (PreK-12)

Start date: 07/15/2019

End date: 07/18/2019

Time: 09:00am-2:00pm

Location: Teachers College, Columbia University, 525 W. 120th St., New York, NY 10027

TCICP is excited to announce the Inclusive Classrooms Coaching Institute: Level 2! Please join us to look closer at coaching models and inclusive practices. Delving deeper into the topics we discussed each day (Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Co-teaching, Positive Behavior Supports, and Inclusive/Responsive Literacy Instruction), we will build on the work we began during Level 1, including goal setting, coaching conversations and debriefing, and exploring methods and cycles of professional development. At the end of the institute, participants will leave with resources and cycles of professional development tailored for their school.

Please note that Level 1 is a prerequisite for this professional development.
